Deputy Director

Position Overview:

Michigan Voices seeks a dynamic strategist with strong coalition-building and management skills to help strengthen our ability to provide infrastructure to support Michigan’s dynamic ecosystem of social justice nonprofits. The ideal candidate will be both a visionary and a hands-on leader, providing consultation, guidance, and action to advance Michigan Voices’ mission of building an inclusive and thriving democracy.

This role will work closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership team to shape organizational strategy, support development and communications, foster partnerships, and engage the board. In addition to serving as an external representative of Michigan Voices’ values and vision, this person will be a strong internal leader - supporting programmatic staff to maximize their impact, aligning teams with organizational priorities, and cultivating a workplace culture rooted in equity and collaboration.

Functioning as a key leader within the organization, the Deputy Director will augment and extend the capacity of the Executive Director, serving as a strategic partner and thought leader across the team and partners. They will directly oversee the Coalitions and Communications, Field, Data, and Partnership teams and collaborate across departments, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that Michigan Voices continues to thrive as a hub for civic engagement, racial equity, and democratic participation in Michigan.

Michigan Voices is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Studies have shown that women, nonbinary folks, and People of Color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every one of the qualifications described in a job description. That candidate may come from a background less traditional to our field of work, and that’s okay.
