Maximize Your Voting Power
It can be a lot to keep track of your own schedule and to-do list, never mind remembering voting deadlines and understanding what’s on your ballot. But your vote has power, and there are resources that can help you utilize that power. In honor of National Voter Education Week, we are going to outline two key resources for you to use ahead of the upcoming November 4 municipal election. These two websites answer the most commonly asked questions regarding voting in Michigan:
Resource 1: MichiganVoting.org
Your go-to place for voting information in Michigan should be MichiganVoting.org. MichiganVoting.org provides information on who is eligible to vote, how to register to vote, when to vote, and how to vote — in-person before Election Day, in-person on Election Day, or from home. This website has the answers to all of your voting questions in a non-partisan and accessible place.
Not only does MichiganVoting.org have answers to all your voting questions, but you can also learn about the checks and balances in place to keep Michigan’s elections secure and accurate. These resources are available in English, Arabic, Spanish, and Bangla. MichiganVoting.org also provides this information in graphics and videos for social media that you can amplify, share, or check out from your profiles.
Resource 2: MyBallotMyPower.org
You’ve made it past the first steps and are registered and ready to harness your (voting) superpower, but you don’t know what you’re voting on or who you’re voting for. Not to fear, MyBallotMyPower.org is here! On this website, you can see a sample ballot for the upcoming election and a breakdown of what’s on your ballot, including who the candidates are, what their role in government is, what decisions they make, and stances on key issues.
We’ve all been there, googling names in the voting booth, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can save yourself time and stress on Election Day and use MyBallotMyPower.org to pre-select and save your vote choices.
Follow these steps to maximize MyBallotMyPower.org:
Go to MyBallotMyPower.org and click on the “See what’s on YOUR ballot!” button.
Enter the address where you’re registered to vote and learn about the roles and candidates on your ballot.
Select the candidates in each race that best reflect your values. The website will save your selection for you and move on to the next race.
Finish making your selections, and MyBallotMyPower.org will encourage you to email yourself the results so you’re ready for the voting booth.
Make your plan to vote on or before Election Day, November 4.
Every superhero has a sidekick, and you have two. Utilize MichiganVoting.org and MyBallotMyPower.org this election season to help you maximize your voting power.
