Michigan Voices: Hiring Digital Communications Manager

Position Overview:


The Digital Communications Manager will be responsible for creating, implementing, and managing all traditional and online communications activities for Michigan Voices to support and advance its mission, objectives, and priority areas. They will manage all of Michigan Voices' digital properties, including social media channels, websites, and email marketing systems. A key component of this job will be to provide digital communications counsel and support, including digital strategy recommendations, content development, review, and training to Michigan Voices staff and our table partners around the state to help them gain better digital expertise. They will also manage and support the leadership development of the Michigan Voices Digital Media Coordinator.

This position will report directly to the co-executive director, Tameka Ramsey, and will work closely with the other program departments at Michigan Voices.


Primary Functions:

  • Develop and implement Michigan Voices’ digital and social media communications strategy including thinking through how to reach new audiences and key stakeholders

  • Lead technical assistance work related to digital communications and strategy by providing support and guidance to partners

  • Create compelling digital content – including graphics, video, posts and web tools.

  • Develop and assess Michigan Voices’ web and social media analytics. Set goals for growth, engagement, and visibility and create measurable, actionable goals for campaigns.

  • Provide support and training on digital strategy to Michigan Voices’ staff and to table partners based on their needs.

  • Support the development and implementation of all communications activity, communications protocols, messaging, and implementation plans. This will include providing overall support to the communications team.

  • Implement an integrated strategic communications plan to broaden awareness and strengthen Michigan Voices brand identity

  • Develop and manage storytelling opportunities to support our civic engagement goals.

  • Manage communications consultants, interns, fellows, and/or volunteers supporting our Communications efforts as needed

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years in professional communications, marketing or public relations work (at least 2 years working in digital communications)

  • Demonstrated experience developing content that has expanded an organization’s digital footprint – including social media reach and web traffic.

  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and succinctly for different purposes on complex topics. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills (framing, grammar/spelling, editing, proofreading).

  • Strong project management skills, including strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and follow up.

  • Developed understanding of digital organizing and digital trends.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva Pro, and CMS platforms, including Wix and Mailchimp.

  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and develop strong professional relationships and networks externally.

  • Experience managing staff, fellows, or interns.

  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.

  • Desire to be part of a team, which prioritizes learning, adaptability, and self-and community care.

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing racial equity and justice in professional and personal work.

  • Strong understanding of the Michigan political landscape

  • Strong creative thinking abilities and a willingness to learn.

  • Flexible and able to work cooperatively under pressure.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bilingual/bicultural background

  • Experience with VAN (Voter Activation Network)

Compensation:

This is a full-time, salaried position. The salary for this position is $55,000 - $65,000. Michigan Voices offers a full medical, dental, vision, 401k, short and long-term disability, and life insurance compensation package. We also offer a reasonable time-off policy with paid vacation, sick time, and a gender-neutral parental leave policy.
